Our Story
We didn’t have it
all figured out.
And that’s exactly why we built this place.
How it started
We chose freedom.
Nobody warned us about the questions.
A couple of years ago, we made a decision that felt equal parts exciting and terrifying — we decided to chose homeschool right here in Upstate South Carolina for our son’s education. Not because something was horribly wrong. Not because of a crisis. We simply wanted more freedom, more flexibility, and more time together as a family.
What we didn’t anticipate was the reaction from everyone around us. The raised eyebrows at family dinners. The well-meaning questions that felt more like interrogations. The “but what about socialization?” every single time.
“
.We spent so much energy defending our choice that we almost forgot to enjoy it.
— The moment everything changed
Sound familiar? If you’ve chosen to homeschool — for any reason — you probably know exactly what I mean. The outside world has a lot of opinions about your decision. And in those early months, when you’re still figuring out curriculum, schedules, and whether you’re completely ruining your child’s future or not, the last thing you need is to feel like you have to justify yourself at every turn.

What we discovered
The isolation was real.
But it didn’t have to be.
Here’s what nobody told us going in: homeschooling can be lonely. Not just for the kids. For the parents too. When your community is still tied to the school calendar — school pickup conversations, class parent groups, neighborhood kids heading off each morning — it’s easy to feel like you’re on the outside looking in.
We tried everything. Facebook groups that felt overwhelming. Local co-ops that were hard to find. Park days that were hit or miss. And through all of it, we kept thinking the same thing: why isn’t there one place that pulls all of this together?
We’re eclectic homeschoolers — which means we take what works from every approach and leave the rest. We use secular curriculum for some subjects and faith-neutral resources for others. And we’ve built this platform to serve families across the full spectrum — secular, faith-based, and everything in between — because great homeschooling doesn’t belong to any one approach.
Over time, we found our people. We discovered incredible co-ops, made real friends, found curricula we actually love, and built a rhythm that works for our family. And once we had all of that, one thought kept coming back: how do we help other families find this faster?
Why this place exists
The Homeschool Habitat
is built for you.
This site exists for the parent who just told their family they’re homeschooling and is now drowning in opinions. For the family who’s been at it for a year and still feels like they haven’t found their community. For anyone who chose this path because they believed in something different — and needs a place that believes in them back.
We write about curriculum honestly — the good, the bad, and the “we returned it after three weeks.” We share the real day-to-day of homeschool life, not the curated Instagram version. And above everything else, we are obsessively focused on helping you find connection and community — because that’s the thing that makes this life sustainable, joyful, and worth it.
We’re building the resource we wish had existed when we started. Local first. Honest always. Welcoming to every family, every philosophy, every approach.
What we believe in
🤝
Community over comparison
There’s no one right way to homeschool, secular or faith-based, structured or free. We celebrate every approach and believe every family deserves to find their people.
💬
Honesty over perfection
We share what actually works, what doesn’t, and what we’re still figuring out. No performance, no filters.
🌱
